Blossom Festival 2011 Well Blossom festival has been and gone and all those who stayed at home because of weather forecasts missed a great days racing. The number of fast street cars is growing with some cool new cars fronting. The focus is now back on Teretonga with our club meeting so we encourage all those who haven't joined the club to join up. This is a full dial-your-own elimination race meeting but there will be plenty of time for grudge racing during the day. We will also be at Gore in February 2012 and welcome any chance to be involved at other venues that can run Competition vehicles. So please contact the club if you can help out. See you at Teretonga
The recent club day at Teretonga was very successful with all the competitors enjoying the opportunity of racing over a 1/4 mile. A number of people turned up to take advantage of the opportunity of watching some good racing for free. The track held up well and we should be all go to run the planned meetings starting in November. The next meeting will be Alexandra Blossom Festival,
AGM The clubs AGM was held at The Appleby Tavern, Sunday 14th of August, 2011 at 1PM Positive discussions were held about the planing of a possible extension off Teretonga to allow full Drag racing [with no restrictions] to return. Building a stand-alone track is still an option but it was decided that if an agreement on some issues can be sorted with the 'Southland Sports Car Club' it would be our cheapest and easiest option. In the meantime we hope to see as many racers as possible involved in the club street car meeting next weekend to make this a success. Congratulations to the new office bearers and a big thank you to those retiring hope you enjoy your break. Check the contacts page to see who does what. Reminder: Everyone is welcome to our general meetings every second Tuesday in the month, 7pm at The Appleby Tavern.
Southern Dragways have negotiated with the Southland Sports Car Club to run a closed club Drag meet at Teretonga on Sunday, 21st August 2011. This event will be limited to Southern Dragways members only with Street Cars running street tyres (DOT ET streets or similiar permited) and mufflers with current WOF. Due to concerns about the track condition, there will be no burnouts before staging but otherwise racing will be as normal and part of this years pointscore to replace Otepuni Street Sprints. We intend to make this a regular event and have dates scheduled for summer if this is successful, so sign up now and be in on the fun. It only costs $30 to join the club. The Club is still actively organising a proper Dragstrip so we can get full competition Drag racing back to Invercargill.
